Short update: First "date"

Just wanted to record this down so that when I look back through the blog archives, I knew that this happened.

The person on that anti-mainstream dating app I mentioned in the previous post turned out to be visiting Google for a talk last night! I decided to be YOLO and met up with her despite the lack of preparation (not that I have anything much to prepare). It's too bad that my English sucks so bad now; I couldn't keep up with how fast she spoke, though luckily I always managed to get the gist of it. I think she might have noticed that I am the kind of guy who can't keep a conversation going and somehow she managed to order an Uber right under my nose without me realizing it (or maybe she ordered it when she went to the washroom, hmmm) and ran away from the scene lol. Anyway she told me that her friends are waiting for her in a bar to celebrate her birthday (I forgot to wish her directly too... I only wished her in the chat).

Just to let my future self refresh his memory, I found her to be like the typical easy-going Americans who talks a lot and always has a positive outlook in life. From what I gathered, she spent her final semester as an exchange student in SMU and managed to secure a job right after she ended her exchange there, which causes her not to end the exchange, so to speak, since she didn't really leave Singapore. The manner she secured the job was very unusual too; she said she bumped into someone who works in the company she's working at now at a bar, talked about herself, and the person was sold. Now that's the kind of thing that I thought can only happen in the movies.

She also mentioned about how she was recently very homesick, but fortunately it was her birthday yesterday, and she decided to make the day special by treating herself by going to a bar with friends and other things that I couldn't catch lol. She said she lately has been working late but she doesn't mind because she enjoyed it. Boy I wished I could be as positive as her!

It was kinda like a lightning date, if there is such a thing. Unfortunately, I was unable to talk much about myself since I am too slow to come up with things to talk about. I think other than the due to my rusty social skills, there was a language barrier as well.

If she somehow is willing to continue chatting with me through the dating app (that would be like another miracle. The fact that she swiped me right is already one), I should really work hard to be able to reach the level of positivity (and English) that she has.

Wish me luck in my life's endeavours, and I shall wish you luck in yours too! :)

NB: in case anyone wonders why the title, it's because it was about the the first date that I had with someone from a dating app. Not sure if it counts as a first date too since I never had an official date before, unless the one where I made a bet with her about our A level results and she lost counted as one (too lazy to find the post, sorry).
