The Big Data Migration
Hi readers! I do not even remember when was the last time I wrote here... Has it been more than one week? University life is indeed very hectic, extremely so such that I lose track of time. Suddenly this coming week is recess week (or in Singapore, is actually "mid-term preparation week") and mid-term exam will follow thereafter.
If I am really that busy, why do I even bother to write now, anyway? Well... Because I love you my readers!! <3<3 .......... Nah.... Are there even readers? Is there any reader at all actually? Lol..... Anyway the real reason I write now is because I am waiting for the big data migration, just as what the title says. Well, remember I bought a new laptop last week? (Or was it 2 weeks ago? I seriously lost the track of time!) Yeah, so finally I am able to spend some time looking through my old files and decide which will stay, which will go over to the next laptop, and which will be deleted. It is pretty similar to tidying up your room; you will find a lot of stuff that you do not even remember it was there. Some things (or files in this case) bring memories, both good and bad. However, I cannot really take my own sweet time in transferring. I am flying back to my home country tomorrow afternoon to bring my old bro (my new nickname for my old laptop) to my home. Even after 4 years of blood, fire and strife, my old bro is still a faithful servant of mine, though it starts to fail when I am pushing him to the limit (such as by playing games, and just recently, coding).
It is still in a pretty good shape intrinsically, really. Like it still boots as quickly as when I first bought it. However, because he was running Windows Vista, so some significant waiting time is expected. Outside, however, there are some rusts at some parts of him, most likely due to my stay at my old hostel which was located close to the sea. He also heats up very quickly for unknown reason, even though I did not really push him or anything. Perhaps it is because the wear and tear inside him have started to take its toll.
I start to sound ridiculous, don't I? Writing as if my laptop is a human being or something. But really, I feel that connection between us. The fact that he never breaks down on me, despite running the loathed OS Windows Vista is really something to me. (Okay, he did get into BSOD state for a couple of times. But it was in the span of four years! How often do your Windows machine got into BSOD? What version of Windows?)
So, this big data migration post will I dedicate especially to him, my old faithful laptop-bro, who have faithfully served me for slightly more than four years, going through the fires and strife of Singapore education system such as Project Work, e-learning sessions, Photoshop projects, and of course, gaming sessions. Thank you for only breaking down into BSOD on not so crucial times, thank you for putting up with me even though I keep playing games that is not quite designed for your noob graphic card such as The Sims 3, Left for Dead 2, DotA 2 and last but certainly not least, the mighty Skyrim. Sorry if I on a handful of occasions unplugged the power supply even when you are not on battery, and thank you for surviving those accidents without any error or spoilt hard disk sectors.
But everyone has their time. Four years is really a longer than average age for a laptop nowadays. Your ability stays constant but the demand of the software keeps increasing. It is impossible to keep you as my companion forever, however much I like it to be. So now, I would like to welcome the new baby to the list of my laptop companions. Indeed the road ahead will be more rough than what all the previous laptops had gone through, but nevertheless, let us hope that he will keep up to the high standard you have set up for the ranks of laptop I owned, or even set up a new, higher standard for future laptops.
That is all for now, before I go even deeper to humanizing my laptops. I think you readers have had enough internet for today. Go to sleep or do something more productive. I also need to do so. Anyway, seems like the Big Data Migration went faster than expected! So I shall end here. Thank you for reading! =p
